La tragedia del Pukkelpop: le reazioni
Il bilancio ufficiale di 5 morti e 40 feriti è provvisorio, ma la devastante tempesta che si è abbattuta su tendoni e strutture del Pukkelpop nei pressi di Hasselt (Belgio) ha lasciato ancora una volta il mondo della musica sotto shock a qualche giorno dall’analogo incidente a Indianapolis.
Questo il racconto di Cullen Omori degli Smith Westerns che si stavano esibendo prima del crollo delle strutture nel tendone dello Chateau Stage:
“Avevamo appena finito di suonare il primo brano (…) quando il tendone ha iniziato a tremare, come di norma quando c’è un temporale di passaggio. Ho fatto un commento su Cheap Trick ed eravamo lì lì per iniziare il secondo pezzo quando il nostro manager ci ha urlato di fuggire dal palco. Ed è allora che degli alberi sono crollati a meno di un metro da Max, il nostro chitarrista. A quel punto credevamo semplicemente che avessero devastato il palco, non l’intero tendone. Solo con l’arrivo delle squadre di recupero abbiamo iniziato a capire cos’era successo e cosa stava succedendo. I nostri pensieri e le nostre preghiere vanno alle famiglie che hanno perso i propri cari nella tragedia di oggi”
Inutile sottolineare come il festival sia stato cancellato, in conseguenza dei tragici eventi. Erano circa quarantamila i partecipanti al festival, e a meno di ventiquattrore dal dramma, la pagina Facebook di tributo alle vittime, Pukkelpop 2011 – Pay your respects ha già raggiunto quasi 50mila adesioni.
La redazione di Kalporz è vicina a familiari e amici delle vittime, e agli stessi Smith Westerns che così giovani hanno vissuto uno shock del genere. Questi invece gli altri messaggi dal web tra artisti che avrebbero dovuto esibirsi e altri che si sono esibiti gli anni scorsi. .
